Registration Already Open for All Summer Programs

New Britain, CT – New Britain Youth Theater has announced summer theater programs for ages four through twelve to be held in June and July at Jefferson Elementary School in New Britain. Registration for the programs is open to children from any town.

The theater company has already begun registration for the programs, NBYT’s Twisted Tales. NBYT will hold the program at Jefferson Elementary School on Horse Plain Road in New Britain near the Farmington border. According to Executive Producing Director Darren Farrington, “Jefferson offers us a large auditorium, a cafeteria for lunches (children should bring their own) and wide outdoor space including a playground for breaks. The location right off Route 84 is great for commuters too. We’re really excited about being there.”

In NBYT’s Twisted Tales, children will “twist” or re-imagine classic stories and fairy tales to perform on stage.  Children will help to create scripts, costumes, props and sets for two to three short plays based on classic fairy tales or children’s stories. “Some ideas we’ve had,” said Executive Artistic Director David Sousa, “are Snow White and the Seven Ninjas or The Three Little Pigs in Space, but we hope children will come with many ideas of their own too.”

The summer program will be held in three sessions. A Junior Session for ages 4 through 6 begins on Monday, June 27, and runs through Friday, July 1. Program hours are 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for this youngest group, and the cost is $100.00 per child. All children will be part of a “share day” performance held on stage for families and friends on the last day of the program.

In July, two sessions will be held for ages 7 through 12. Session One will meet weekdays from Tuesday, July 5, through Friday, July 15. Session Two will meet weekdays from Monday, July 18, through Friday, July 29. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for this age group. Children can register for two weeks or all four, and stories and activities will be different in each session. A final performance for families and friends will be held on the last day of each session. Cost for the program is $160.00 for Session One and $175 for Session Two (the difference because Session One won’t meet on Monday, July 4). For both sessions—all four weeks—the cost is only $300.

In addition to NBYT’s Twisted Tales, the theater will soon announce a Teen Company summer program for ages 13 through 18. Auditions and class schedules for Fall 2011 will also be announced during the summer.
