Summer Performances to Be Held July 29 & 30

New Britain, CT – New Britain Youth Theater will hold its first Teen Company auditions for the play, I Know I Saw Gypsies, on Sunday, June 5, and Tuesday, June 7, at Trinity-on-Main Performance Center Annex at 19 Chestnut Street in New Britain.  Auditions on both days will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  The production will be presented on July 29 and 30, 2011 in the Trinity-on-Main Recital Hall.

No prior experience is required, and auditions are open to teens ages 13 through 18 from any town. Those auditioning should prepare a monologue of twenty to thirty lines from the play; a link to an excerpt from the play is on the NBYT website at To schedule an audition, call (860) 515-8115 or email Pre-scheduled auditions are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. For this production, no participation fee will be charged. Teens may also contact NBYT with interest in stage management or other production positions.

I Know I Saw Gypsies consists of several short pieces written by high school playwrights and adapted by Tom Erhard. The play deals with teen issues such as lack of popularity, prejudice, bullying, first love, family relationships, and other school troubles. Several of the pieces are comical; many are touching and serious; and all of them are powerful. The production will be simply staged by NBYT Executive Artistic Director David Sousa, and will give young actors the opportunity to explore voice, emotions, monologues, and other acting techniques.

The NBYT Teen Company is a program of New Britain Youth Theater in which teens become involved in choosing, producing and promoting their own theater. The program offers leadership opportunities and a chance for teens to do the shows they want to do, all while under the guidance of NBYT directors.
