New Britain-Berlin YMCA offers Winter Swim Lessons

 What Fish Are You??

 Group Lessons ($40 Members/$90 Non-Members)

Parent & Child (6 months -3 years old)

No previous water experience needed. Children and parents are introduced to basic water skills together in a fun, safe, learning environment. Songs, games and toys will be used. (No Maximum Number of Participants)

 PIKE

Are you a Pike? (Ages 3-5)

This is the first class for children without a parent in the water. They will be introduced to basic water skills: kicking, blowing bubbles, floating, submerging their face, and proper arm strokes. (Max of 6)

EEL

Are you an Eel? (Ages 3-5)

This is the second level for preschool children. Participants should be able to swim the paddle stroke the width of the pool independently. The emphasis of the class will be back stroke and proper rhythmic breathing. (Max of 6)

RAY

Are you a Ray? (Ages 3-5)

This is the highest level of the preschool classes. In order to participate in this class, children should be able to paddle stroke with rhythmic breathing and successfully backstroke. This class focuses on rotary breathing, crawl stroke and underwater swimming. (Max of 6)

POLLIWOG

Are you a POLLIWOG? (Ages 6-12)

This level is for beginner swimmers. No previous water experience is needed. This class is perfect for those who might be nervous in and around the water. Focus of the class is on water safety and basic swimming skills. (Max of 8)

GUPPY

Are you a GUPPY? (Ages 6-12)

This class is for those who are able to swim the width of the pool on their front, back and side independently. Emphasis is on front, back and sidestroke. Stroke development is necessary with successful rhythmic breathing. Student should be comfortable in deep water. (Max of 8)

FISH

Are you a FISH? (Ages 6-12)

Student should be able to swim 50 yards of front crawl, back crawl, and side stroke in good to very good form. Breaststroke should be more refined and Butterfly is introduced. Endurance and stroke refinement are the emphasis of this class. (Max of 8)

 ADVANCED SWIMMER CLASS

For those of you who either have passed out of Fish/Flying Fish we have a Swim Team Prepared Class Called our Dolphin Level that will be taking place This class will focus on all competitive swimming aspects including but not limited to: starts, stroke specific turns, freestyle and backstroke flip turn, ways to increase speed. The instructor will be a seasoned competitive swimmer.

Monday 6pm-7.15pm for $150 for Members and $185 for Non-Members

 SPECIAL ADULT LESSONS

These adult lessons require the participants be above the age of 18. We will have a Beginner Swim Lessons for those who speak Spanish as a first language and a Beginner Swim Lessons for those who speak Polish as a first language. The instructors for each class are fluent in the specified language and are here to help those of you who previous thought there was a language barrier on swim lessons.
