New Britain-Berlin YMCA Announces Various Honors at 128th Annual Meeting!

The New Britain-Berlin YMCA announced honors for volunteers, members, board members and staff who are impacting our community in positive ways. 

At the 128th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, April 11th, outgoing Board President, Rebecca Karabin-Ahern of the Acme-Monaco Corp. welcomed the incoming Board President, Thomas R. Fausel, as the open public meeting detailed the organization’s health and direction.

The event kicks off the Annual Support Campaign which raises financial aid for youth and family programs.  This past year the New Britain-Berlin YMCA distributed $180,000 in scholarships and financial aid.  The upcoming drive seeks to fulfill an admirable goal of $200,000 to assist those in need in our community.

Looking to bond community resources with community needs, the meeting focused on how the New Britain-Berlin YMCA plays an integral role in promoting Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.    Awards which directly relate to the YMCA’s mission were presented to Greg Stafstrom -The Ron Brooks Youth Development Award; Michael Edwards – The Healthy Living Award; and Sue Savage (for Archie Savage) – The Archie Savage Social Responsibility Award .

Awards were also presented to Scott Lamaire and Luis Sanchez for their outstanding youth service while three YMCA staff members were honored for milestone years of service:  Butch Kinion (20 yrs), Victor Castro (15 yrs), and Marcus Willett (10 yrs).

The Berlin Child Care children delight attendees at the New Britain-Berlin YMCA Annual Meeting at Trinity on Main.

Highlights included rousing singing performances by the New Britain After Care and Berlin Child Care children, touching true stories of members who have greatly benefitted from the Y’s programs and financial aid provisions, and a keynote address by Paul Schlickmann, the Athletic Director from CCSU, emphasizing the core values that the YMCA promotes in mind, body, and spirit.
