Chamber to host “Welcome to the Community” Breakfast Thursday, August 9th

A special “Welcome to the Community” breakfast will be held August 9th to recognize Kelt Cooper, the new Superintendent of Schools in New Britain and John Willi, the new president of the New Britain Rock Cats.

The breakfast will be hosted by the Greater New Britain Chamber of Commerce from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at CCSU ITBD, 185 Main Street, New Britain.

William F. Millerick, Chamber president, said “we expect a pretty large crowd of people from the business and nonprofit sectors who would like to meet Mr. Cooper and Mr. Willi, hear about their plans for the coming few years and wish them well.”

Millerick also announced that Comcast will be the presenting sponsor for the breakfast. “Comcast feels it is very important to provide as much support for the school system as well as a great family attraction like the Rock Cats, so they are wonderful partner in putting this event together.”

Cooper, who joined the New Britain school system recently, is looking forward to his first opening of schools here in a few weeks.

Willi, a former award-winning executive of the Rock Cats under the previous ownership group, returns to the New Britain-Berlin area now as president of the new ownership group which has recently purchased the team.  Both men will address the breakfast guests and then take questions and comments.

“We feel it is important that Chamber members and their guests leave our breakfast feeling that it was time well spent. Getting an inside look at what the coming year holds for the school system under new leadership or how one of New England’s most successful sports franchises is transitioning with new leadership will be an illuminating 90 minutes.

A full, hot breakfast buffet will be included. Reservations, which are $20 per person, are mandatory, to ensure everyone is seated.

Networking and the hot breakfast buffet will begin at 7:30 AM.  The speaking program will begin at 8 a.m. and run for one hour.

Further information and reservations may be  obtained by contacting Teresa Riccio, Events Coordinator, at the Greater New Britain Chamber of Commerce, 1 Court Street, New Britain (860)-229-1665 or by visiting the Chamber website at
