Baseball in New Britain has quite a storied history & Gerry Berthiaume is just the man to tell it

Chamber staff member and Youth Employment Specialist for Capital Workforce Partners, Gerry Berthiaume was featured in the New Britain Herald this past Sunday.

Berthiaume, interviewed by the Herald’s Matt Straub, recalls the early beginnings of the New Britain Rock Cats, how they almost never came to be and “the twist that changed New Britain’s history forever.”

Berthiaume shares both quirky and heartfelt stories with Straub…like the time the Red Sox traded Jeff Bagwell or when he first met the Twins’ brass. “Man, there’s some good stuff from back then…I could write a book.”

Gerry Berthiaume is no longer with the franchise, but baseball is very much in his blood.  He has a countless number of tales to tell about the franchise’s beginnings and how New Britain came to be home.
