On Wednesday, February 20th Capital Workforce Partners in conjunction with the City of New Britain & Greater New Britain Chamber of Commerce: New Britain, Berlin hosted a special Summer Youth Employment Breakfast at the New Britain-Berlin YMCA. The event, with more than 50 individuals/employers in attendance, featured a short film and various speakers.

Perhaps one of the most touching moments of the morning was a brief speech given by Kael, a young New Britain resident, who was accepted into the Summer Youth Employment program just a year ago. It was through this program that he began working for the well known grocery store chain Stew Leonard’s.
He thanked Capital Workforce Partners and the Summer Youth Program for his achievements today. “I’ve become a working machine. I have a purpose” Kael said. Kael is now looking to enroll back into college and has also begun participating in programs at the Opportunities Industrialization Center of New Britain.
If you are interested in becoming a Summer Youth Employer, there is still time to register! For more information, please contact Gerry Berthiaume, Future Workforce Coordinator at 860.229.1665 extension 213 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

The New Britain-Berlin YMCA is proud to have served its communities for the last 130 years. In an effort to remember those who were involved in the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School this past December the Y is holding its fourth Zumba Glow event Friday, February 22, 2013 at 5.30pm.
Proceeds of this Zumba Glow will go in the name of Daniel Barden to the Fire Department of New Britain, CT. Daniel had such a love for firefighters and for helping people that we would like to help our community in his name. A donation of $5 per participant is being asked, anything additional is welcomed as well.
We will have multiple Zumba Instructors on to give you a heart pumping workout. Not only is this a great event with cardiovascular benefits (February is Heart Health Month) but it also does your heart good by giving in the name of someone who will never be forgotten. By the end of 2013 we will have celebrated the lives of all 26 victims of Sandy Hook.
