Boys and Girls Club of New Britain Gala Event

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF NEW BRITAIN GALA EVENT

WILL HONOR MICHAEL TIMURA & COACH GENO AURIEMMA

The Boys & Girls Club of New Britain announced today that long-time Club volunteer Michael Timura and Hall of Fame Coach Geno Auriemma will be honored at their Thursday, September 8, 2011 gala event held at the Aqua Turf.

The new Hands Across Generations award will be given for the first time to long-time volunteer Michael Timura. Timura, retired General Manager of the Downes Construction Company, is a tireless advocate for the Club for the last 37 years, and has been instrumental in overseeing the recent $3,000,000 capital improvement projects at the Washington Street facility.  “Without supporters such as Mike Timura, the Club would not be able to continue to provide the services it does to the hundreds of kids that rely upon it,” stated D’Addabbo.

Coach Auriemma will be receiving the Champion of Youth award for all of his contributions to the youth in Connecticut. “Coach Auriemma has been such an inspirational role model for so many kids over the last 20 years that we wanted to recognize him at this new, annual event,” stated Boys & Girls Club Board Chairman Paul D’Addabbo.

“Not only is Coach Auriemma a great coach, but he is an entertaining speaker,” stated Todd Czuprinski, Chief Professional Officer of the Club. “We are looking forward to an enjoyable evening of celebrating our successes as well as continuing the Boys & Girls Club legacy in New Britain for another several decades.”

The gala event will feature a dinner and awards ceremony and is designed to highlight the Club’s 120 years of service to the community’s youth. This is the first year for both the gala event and the new award, which the Club plans to continue on an annual basis. Tickets are $65 per person, and various sponsorship levels and program ad space are available. This event is open to the public. For ticket information please call the New Britain Club at 860-229-2865.
